Cytec has a 75-year history in the development of Sulfosuccinate Surfactant Technology. Below are a few representative applications where Aerosol OT exhibits distinct performance advantages.

Printing Ink/Overprint Varnish Systems – Aerosol OT is widely used as a wetting/leveling agent in water-based printing ink formulations to rapidly decrease surface tension which improves wetting of the substrate, resulting in an improvement in adhesion, gloss and color resolution. An improvement in flow leads to a more uniform coating of the substrate. Rapid wetting is compatible with very fast printing rates.

Emulsion Polymerization – Aerosol OT can be used as a primary or co-emulsifier, and as a post-add, for the manufacture of a wide variety of latex types. In latexes, it provides efficient particle generation at low usage levels and can produce latexes with very low particle size and narrow distribution. Latex made with Aerosol OT have low levels of coagulum, and a high conversion and molecular weight. It also works well in lowering surface tension and improving flow and leveling in all types of latexes (including acrylic, styrene-acrylic, vinyl acetate, vinyl acrylic, and styrene-butadiene).

Other Applications for Aerosol OT are:
- Paint Formulations – provides excellent flow and leveling characteristics, as well as promoting better wetting and hence paint adhesion.
- Organic/Hydrocarbon-Based Systems – very compatible and effective as a wetting/solubilizing/dispersing agent in a wide variety of organic/hydrocarbon/oil-based systems.
